June 1, 2017 (Pittsburgh, PA) — Othot and Rivers Agile have won the 2017 CREATE Award for Excellence in Interactive Design, receiving the most votes for both the People’s Choice and the Panelist’s Choice.

Presented annually by the Pittsburgh Technology Council, the CREATE Festival (Changing Realities with Art and Technology Explorations) has been held every spring since 2009. The festival, which began as the Design, Art + Technology Awards (DATA), celebrates art, technology and ingenuity, and presents awards to recognize the most creative and innovative work of the year.

CREATE has partnered with Carnegie Mellon University, the Andy Warhol Museum, the Pittsburgh Opera, CEOs for Cities and the Carnegie Museum of Art -- and in 2015, started a national creative industries collaboration with the Detroit Creative Corridor Center, the Santa Fe International, ZERO1 in Silicon Valley, and the Gray Area Foundation for the Arts in San Francisco.

The CREATE award honors Othot’s predictive analytics dashboard, which was built by the experts at local software development firm Rivers Agile. Othot tasked Rivers Agile with a formidable challenge: take Othot’s breakthrough data science and present it to customers as “The World’s Most Easy-to-Use Advanced Analytics Software-as-a-Service.”

This goal was mission-critical because the predictive analytics vendors in Othot’s initial target market of higher education are either consultants delivering static reports, or software suppliers with dashboards that required data scientists to use and interpret the results.

Othot was determined to “democratize” predictive science by giving its customers an affordable, intuitive interface that enabled users with zero background in data science to “turn the knobs and dials” themselves in real time to see which students were most likely to enroll, and what actions to take to increase the likelihood.

Rivers Agile succeeded in producing a seamless front-end for Othot’s proprietary data analytics algorithm stack: an interface that balances minimalistic design with high functionality to allow the data to be easily digested and consumed, making it significantly more intuitive and customer-friendly than any other solution on the market.

Principals from Othot and Rivers Agile received the award at CREATE’s annual party on June 1, where winners in all the participating categories – including Communications, Entertainment + Media, Gaming + Education, Creative Arts, Design + Maker - were announced.
